Join White Castle’s Technology team as a Network Engineer – Security & Infrastructure and help support, secure, and continuously improve the enterprise network that connects our Home Office and locations across the organization. This is a hands-on role for a network professional who enjoys troubleshooting, solving problems, working with a variety of technologies, and expanding their experience in both network engineering and cybersecurity. Reporting to the Network Architecture & Security Manager, you will help design, implement, maintain, monitor, and secure our network infrastructure while participating in projects that improve reliability, performance, security, and efficiency. You will also have opportunities to expand your experience in areas such as network architecture, enterprise firewalls, wireless networking, security monitoring, and infrastructure design. Location & Hybrid Schedule:

Columbus, Ohio – Hybrid

This is not a fully remote position. This role requires working onsite at our Columbus-area Home Office a minimum of three days per week, with the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week.

Candidates should live within reasonable commuting distance of Columbus, Ohio, or be willing to relocate to the Columbus area.

Some travel to White Castle locations and other facilities will be required to support network deployments, projects, and technology initiatives.

What we are looking for

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, network administration, infrastructure, network security, or a related technology role is required;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, technical training, and relevant professional experience;

  • Experience supporting a multi-site or distributed technology environment is beneficial;

  • CompTIA Security+/Network+, certification preferred;

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, wireless networking, DNS, DHCP, and common network protocols;

  • Hands-on experience configuring, maintaining, or troubleshooting enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and related network infrastructure;

  • Experience with enterprise firewall technologies such as Palo Alto, Sophos, Juniper, Cisco, or comparable platforms;

  • Experience with enterprise switching or wireless technologies such as Meraki, Cisco, Juniper, or comparable platforms;

  • Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic technologies such as PRTG, SolarWinds, Wireshark, or similar tools;

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and how they apply to network infrastructure and day-to-day operations;

  • Familiarity with security technologies such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, NAC, endpoint protection, vulnerability-management tools, or similar platforms;

  • Ability to recognize potential security concerns, perform initial investigation, and escalate issues when appropriate;

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS, NIST, or similar standards is beneficial.

What You’ll do

  • Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, switching, and VPN environments;

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPN solutions, and related technologies;

  • Apply cybersecurity principles to network design and day-to-day network operations to help maintain a secure and reliable technology environment;

  • Monitor network traffic, utilization, availability, and performance to identify potential issues, security concerns, capacity needs, and opportunities for improvement;

  • Use network monitoring, security, and diagnostic tools to investigate issues, analyze network traffic, identify root causes, and improve network performance and reliability;

  • Assist with maintaining network segmentation, firewall policies, access controls, VPN connectivity, wireless security, and other network security controls;

  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new networking and security technologies;

  • Troubleshoot routing, switching, wireless, firewall, VPN, connectivity, performance, and network-security issues across a distributed enterprise environment;

  • Serve as a technical escalation resource for network and connectivity issues;

  • Work collaboratively with other Technology teams to diagnose issues that cross network, server, application, endpoint, telecommunications, and security environments;

  • Provide hands-on technical assistance during significant incidents, network deployments, project implementations, and periods of increased operational demand;

  • Participate in after-hours support when necessary for critical incidents, planned maintenance, or technology implementations;

  • Take ownership of technical issues through resolution or coordinate escalation to the appropriate internal team, vendor, or technology partner;

  • Partner with the Network Architecture & Security Manager on network design, infrastructure planning, security initiatives, and architecture discussions;

  • Evaluate network and security technologies and help develop recommendations based on performance, security, reliability, scalability, supportability, and cost;

  • Identify opportunities to improve network performance, simplify administration, strengthen security, reduce risk, and improve operational efficiency;

  • Participate in network and security projects from planning and design through implementation and operational support;

  • Assist with project coordination activities to help ensure technology initiatives are completed successfully and on schedule;

  • Monitor trends in network utilization and performance and provide recommendations for enhancements or changes;

  • Build strong working relationships with Technology teams, regional teams, business partners, and external technology vendors;

  • Create and maintain network diagrams, configuration information, standards, troubleshooting procedures, and other technical documentation;

  • Regularly review and update documentation to ensure it accurately represents the current network environment;

  • Work with internal partners and external vendors to investigate telecommunications issues, service discrepancies, and billing anomalies when necessary;

  • Travel to White Castle locations and other facilities when needed to support network deployments, troubleshooting, and technology initiatives;

  • Perform other technology-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Starting Pay Rate: $95,781.40 /year
